Long-term interplay between COVID-19 and CKD

About 10 to 20% of people infected by the COVID-19 virus experience post-COVID-19 conditions.

Longitudinal studies indicate that 80–85% of patients with post-COVID-19 report persistence of symptoms after 12 months of follow-up. Given that post-COVID syndrome is relatively new, its natural history and the range of effects are not fully understood.

The objective of this narrative review is to summarise evidence on the interplay between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and COVID-19, both during active COVID-19 infection as well as post-COVID-19. Furthermore, it focuses on potential synergistic effects of the interplay between the two diseases and major common pathways
